Using the Lucent and Riverstone solution, Kazakhtelecom can deliver DSL Internet access, and Ethernet-based virtual private network (VPN) services to customers in Astana, Atyrau and Aktau. This solution also can enable Kazakhtelecom to cost-effectively introduce multiple next-generation services in the future using a variety of DSL technologies. "With this project we begin fulfilling our plan to introduce broadband access services to subscribers throughout Kazakhstan. The solution developed by Lucent and Riverstone not only meets our current demand but will let us easily grow into full-scale next-generation network (NGN) infrastructure to support various innovative services," said Kazakhtelecom President Khairat Karibzhanov. "There is considerable demand in the market for efficient, scalable and cost-effective solutions and we work with our partners to meet these needs," said Dmitry Kamensky, Lucent Technologies Russia and CIS, managing director.
