PRESS-RELEASE RE FACILITY AGREEMENTS
JSC NAC Kazatomprom, its subsidiary company MAEC-Kazatomprom LLP
and Natixis bank have signed two facility agreements for the total
amount of USD 32 mln. for 11.5 years (including 2 years grace
period). This facility is covered by the French state export credit
agency COFACE and is to be used for supply of two desalination
units (Horizontal Tube Film Evaporator - 2 and 3).
The supplier is an international consortium of French company
SIDEM and GMMOS-Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan company registered in Aktau
in 2004 will produce about 30% of works and equipment at place.
Totally the construction will take 36 months from the moment of
financing. The first desalination unit, with the capacity of 12,000
tons distillate per day, will be installed and out into operation
by the end of 2012, the second one - by the end of 2013.
The French desalination units provide 30% of economic
effectiveness in comparison with the equipment s of other
manufacturers due to longer useful economic life. for the used
materials The warranty period is 30 years - the casing of the unit
is made of duplex steel and tubes are made of titanium and brass -
a warranty for 30 years are issued. The second advantage is
low-cost operation of the units - due to smaller specific
electricity consumption and due to smaller consumption of antiscale
agent and sulphaminic acid for tubes washing, saving amounts about
USD 250 thousand per year.
For reference:
There are just a few fresh water sources at Mangyshlac
Peninsula. Therefore, the commissioning of the new desalination
units is essential and is of high priority in the development of
the region. Nowadays, MAEC-Kazatomprom is operating 6 desalinators,
but 5 units out of them have already run out of the designed 20
year service life. In order to avoid deficit of fresh water
MAEC-Kazatomprom implements the program of putting new desalination
units into operation. In 2008, the DDU-12 Israeli Unit was
constructed there with the capacity of 12000 tons of distillate per
day.
MAEC-Kazatomprom LLP is a diversified enterprise supplying the
region with electric energy, heat, drinking, hot and technical
water. Production technique is based on desalination of Caspian
water. Initially MAEC was designed and built as a unified complex
including heat power plants, distillation desalination units and
fast breeder reactor BN-350 (currently being decommissioned).
Beginning from 2003 it forms the part of Kazatomprom. 25
subdivisions with staff consisting generally more than 4 thousand
people are operating this industrial complex.
