United Energy PLC - Re Assignment of Interest

United Energy plc, the oil and gas company, announces that following the
Planning Inspectorate's refusal for planning permission under Appeal, it has
assigned its interest in the site for Agrigen's Nunn Mills Biomass Power
Station, held through its wholly owned subsidiary United Energy Properties
Ltd, to Gallagher Developments for a consideration of approximately #250,000
in cash.  This is expected to reduce the provision against United Energy's
investment in Agrigen in the results for the year ended 31 December 1998 from
the previously announced #1.2 million to below #1 million.  The cash will be
used to reduce bank debt.

As a result of this assignment of interest, Agrigen Ltd will not be appealing
the Planning Inspector's decision in the High Court.

Efforts are continuing to realise further value from the Agrigen investment.
