CA, Inc. (NASDAQ: CA) today announced two initiatives to address federation market dynamics and technology evolution. First, CA is kicking off the beta test program for CA Federation Manager, a new product designed to ease the deployment of federated partnerships. This product will address the market evolution for more rapid and simpler federation deployments as the number of federated partnerships for a typical organization moves from dozens of partners to hundreds. CA also announced planned support for Microsoft Windows CardSpace in the next release of CA SiteMinder Web Access Manager. This capability is designed to enable a CA SiteMinder protected Web site to accept self-issued or managed information cards as part of a user-centric identity management deployment. CA Federation Manager CA Federation Manager is designed to deliver greater deployment flexibility and ease of use for customers who want to establish federated partnerships quickly in conjunction with or separate from their Web access management system. It is a new product that will facilitate standards-based browser federation by enabling an organization to act as an identity providerthe side of the federated partnership that provides user authentication and assertion of identity, or as a service providerthe side of the partnership that provides the target Web site, or both. We are seeing continued maturity in the federation market and are developing CA Federation Manager to address the way the federation market is moving, said Bilhar Mann, senior vice president, CA Security Management. In the past federation was typically viewed as an extension to a Web access management system. Today for various reasonssoftware-as-a-service being onesome organizations are looking to federate first in a flexible and modular way. This product will address that need. CA Federation Manager will add important new capabilities to CAs federation offering, such as: Simple installation and deployment whether operating as an identity provider or service provider. Quick and easy wizard-driven, federation-focused administration. Flexible deployment with the ability to run standalone or as a complement to CA SiteMinder Web Access Manager. Broad integration options covering multiple service provider and identity provider scenarios. Demand for federation technologies continues to grow steadily as enterprise applications become more dispersed and workforces grow more distributed, said Gerry Gebel, vice president and service director for Burton Group. The number and complexity of usage scenarios also continues to expand, requiring that vendors provide flexible product configurations. For more information on participation in the CA Federation Manager Beta Program, please contact Ellen.Newlands@ca.com. CA SiteMinder Web Access Manager Support for Microsoft Windows CardSpace Supporting the view that there are various types of federationstraditional (e.g. SAML-based), service-focused (Web services) and user-centricCA plans support for Windows CardSpace with the next release of CA SiteMinder Web Access Manager. In this release, CA intends to provide an Information Card Authentication Scheme within CA SiteMinder Web Access Manager that enables it to manage access to Web sites that accept self-issued or managed cards for access. Once the user is authenticated by CA SiteMinder, access can be controlled for that site using standard CA SiteMinder policy functionality. Many of our existing customers use CA SiteMinder Web Access Manager to protect large-scale consumer facing Web sites. As Windows CardSpace becomes more popular in the market with users and organizations, this support should allow CA SiteMinder customers to accept CardSpace compliant information cardseither managed or self-issuedto enable access to their Web applications and ease the users access while giving them more control and privacy, Mann said.
