BellSouth Celebrates Black History Month Celebration includes
dynamic speakers, African-American Newspapers exhibit, and musical
performances ATLANTA, Feb. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- BellSouth Corporation
(NYSE:BLS) is celebrating national Black History Month with a
series of events in February to commemorate the numerous
contributions made by African-Americans throughout history and to
the present day. In doing so, BellSouth reinforces its on- going
commitment to diversity and to fostering an inclusive work
environment for all its employees. "Our nine-state region has
experienced vibrant growth and become home to many different
people, languages and cultures," said Valencia Adams, BellSouth's
chief diversity officer. "At the heart of our mission to create
shareholder value is a set of lasting values and behaviors:
respecting people, serving our customers and communities ...
excellence, integrity and mutual trust. Understanding the past can
go a long way toward helping us bring about a new sense of
understanding and create the kind of society in which we would all
like to live." Led by its employee networking group, the BellSouth
Network of African American Telecommunications Professionals
(BNAT), BellSouth is celebrating Black History Month with a series
of events and activities. "And while we work to promote diversity
each and every day of the year, February is one of several months
of the year that's set aside as a special time when we're able to
highlight the numerous accomplishments made by a particular
community -- in this case, African-American," said Adams. BNAT is
one of BellSouth's six employee-led networking groups. Employee
networking groups are a major component of BellSouth's inclusion
strategy. These organizations provide employees with opportunities
for personal and career development. At the same time, they enhance
the collective understanding of the diverse concerns, perspectives
and needs of our employees, communities and marketplace. The five
other groups are: BellSouth Women's Networking Alliance, BellSouth
Alianza, which focuses on Latino employees, NewANGLE (New
Associates Networking for Gay and Lesbian Equality), the
Inter-Tribal Council of BellSouth Employees focuses on Native
American employees, and PACE (Pan-Asian Council of Employees).
