FDA Warns About Fakes of ADHD Drug Adderall (WSJ): A counterfeit
version of Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd.'s TEVA 0.00%
Adderall, is being sold on websites, the Food and Drug
Administration warned Tuesday. The fake pills could pose a health
risk, but so far there are no reports of harm, an agency
spokeswoman said.
Vertex Says Efficacy of Drug Was Overstated (WSJ): Vertex
Pharmaceuticals Inc. VRTX -10.87% said Tuesday it overstated the
efficacy of a cystic-fibrosis therapy earlier this month when the
company released data that bolstered investor hopes the therapy
would have blockbuster sales potential.
Working the Night Shift May Boost Breast Cancer Risk (Time
Healthland Blog): Researchers in Denmark reported in the journal
Occupational and Environmental Medicine that women who worked night
shifts were up to four times more likely to develop breast cancer
than women who didn't work nights.
Aspirin and other NSAIDs may protect against skin cancer (LA
Times):
Scientists analyzed 19 years of skin cancer records and reported
in the journal Cancer that aspirin and other nonsteroidal
anti-inflammatory painkillers may help protect against skin cancer.
They compared the rates of skin cancer in those who took one or
more of these drugs with those who didn't.
Psychiatric Manual May Soon Include 'Gambling Disorder' (NPR):
Proposed revisions to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of
Mental Disorders would add "gambling disorder" to alcohol and drug
problems as a "substance use and addictive disorder" that insurers
and others would use to make decisions about treatment and
coverage.
