Manulife Financial Corp. on Friday said Marianne Harrison plans to retire as president and chief executive of John Hancock Financial Services, the Canadian insurer's U.S. segment.

Toronto-based Manulife said Brooks Tingle, currently president and CEO of John Hancock Insurance, is expected to succeed Ms. Harrison at the helm of John Hancock Financial on April 1.

Mr. Tingle, who also serves as the global leader of behavioral insurance for Manulife, would join Manulife's executive leadership team and report to Roy Gori, Manulife's president and CEO, the company said.

Ms. Harrison has spent two decades with Manulife and has been president and CEO of John Hancock since 2017.

Manulife acquired John Hancock for more than $10 billion in 2004.
