College enrollment is expected to increase by 14% from 2015 to 2026, and current university housing is often outdated and overcrowded. College students want more than a dorm; they want purpose-built, pedestrian-to-campus housing with opportunities to study, relax, and connect with friends. The sizeable aging baby boomer population will require suitable housing and care for many decades. With longer lifespans and fewer family caregivers, there is a need for environments based on universal design that feature rich social interaction and lifestyle-appropriate amenities for independent living, assisted living, memory care, and continuing-care retirement communities.
