--U.S. chip maker Broadcom has made a more-than $1 billion patent claim against Germany's Volkswagen and is threatening to have the production of some of the car maker's models stopped in court, Der Spiegel reports.

--Broadcom has filed patent suits in Munich and Mannheim, Germany, concerning the use of a total of 18 of its patents in navigation and entertainment systems, which Volkswagen uses in several car models, according to the report.

--In the U.S., Broadcom is also taking action against Toyota and Panasonic, Der Spiegel says.
