                              Board Appointment

The Board of Hartford Group plc is pleased to announce that Jeremy Spencer,
currently Operations Director, has been appointed to the Board with immediate
effect.


Jeremy Spencer, aged 29, joined the Group as Operations Director from The Slug
and Lettuce Group in January 2001. At Hartford, he has responsibility for the
day-to-day running of operations. He has been instrumental in pioneering the
new gastro pub format currently being trialled, as well as working to improve
performance at the Group's existing fine dining restaurant operations over
recent months.


There is no further information to be disclosed pursuant to Schedule 2 (f) of
the AIM rules.
