Increase
PYX
Resources (NSX: PYX | LSE: PYX), the world's third
largest publicly listed zircon producer by zircon
resources[1], has
been made aware by the local authorities in Central Kalimantan,
Indonesia of the increase in royalties for the export of premium
zircon, rutile and ilmenite. The announcement made by the Regent of
Gunung Mas, Central Kalimantan Province has been put into effect
through tax and regional levies. The
royalties have gone up from 4% of the base price adopted in 2022
(IDR3.0 million per tonne or approx US$8 per tonne) to 20% of a
newly defined base price (IDR4.8 million or approx US$59 per
tonne). This local royalty tax is in
addition to the 1.5% export tax.
This royalty increase has been
applied by all regional governments in Indonesia and has affected
all Indonesia-based participants in the mineral sands industry. PYX
external relations team, in co-operation with the Indonesian Zircon
and Titanium Association (AZTI Asosiasi Zirkon - Titanium
Association) is in contact with the relevant regional agencies to
seek a reversal of the decision or change the perimeter of
application of the royalty increase and eligibility criteria for
exemptions.
PYX's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Oliver Hasler,
said: "This new increase in royalties results in a big impact to the
Indonesian mineral sands industry. We hope that our meetings with
the local authorities come to a constructive
end."
