Delek US Holdings reported an equipment breakdown that led to above-normal gas emissions over the weekend at its oil refinery in Big Spring, Texas.

"Equipment malfunction resulted in exceeding the SO2 [sulfur dioxide] 500 pound Reportable Quantity," the refinery said in a statement to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, noting the emissions happened Saturday afternoon and evening, lasting about 6 hours total.

"Operational moves were immediately made to minimize emissions and were aggressive to the best extent possible," the refinery added.

The 73,000-barrel-a-day Big Spring refinery is located in west Texas, 44 miles east of Midland.
