Military Bowl to Complete a Year of Robust Northrop Grumman Nationwide Giving to the USO
21 Décembre 2012 - 5:35PM
Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) employees are committed to
giving back to those who have given so much to defend our nation.
This commitment was on display across the nation in 2012 through a
range of employee volunteer efforts, charitable contributions and
funded programs all done on behalf of the USO.
"Supporting the USO and the excellent work it does for men and
women in uniform, wounded warriors and veterans is deeply important
to Northrop Grumman and our employees," said Sandra Evers-Manly,
vice president of corporate responsibility and president of the
Northrop Grumman Foundation. "Our corporate engagement with the USO
was reinforced in 2012 and will be capped by our sponsorship of the
Military Bowl benefitting the USO, this December."
The Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman will feature the
Bowling Green Falcons and the 24th-ranked San Jose State Spartans
at Washington, D.C.'s historic RFK Stadium. Kickoff is set for 3
p.m. Eastern time on Dec. 27. The game, which will raise at least
$100,000 for the USO, will be televised nationally on ESPN for the
fifth straight year. Tickets for the 2012 Military Bowl presented
by Northrop Grumman are on sale now. Ticket prices start at
$25.
Northrop Grumman has had a longstanding relationship with the
USO and was the first corporate supporter of Operation USO Care
Package. Since 2003, the company and its employees have donated
resources, time and more than $1 million in support of the care
package program.
Employees creatively and enthusiastically supported USO in
various ways in 2012, including:
- Employees from the South Bay area of Southern California raised
more than $100,000 from the El Segundo and Redondo Beach sites. San
Diego employees raised $73,000; some of those funds sent children
grieving the loss of a loved one to a special summer camp. The
sites also presented a donation of more than $100,000 to the Bob
Hope Hollywood USO Center at Los Angeles International
Airport.
- Volunteers at the Palmdale, Calif., manufacturing center and
the St. Augustine, Fla., manufacturing center each put together
5,000 care packages for service members. Palmdale donations for the
USO totaled $60,000, and donations from St. Augustine and
Melbourne, Fla. reached $15,000 in 2012.
- Bethpage, N.Y., volunteers assembled dozens of bicycles,
complete with bows and personal notes, for children of active
military personnel, and presented them during Fleet Week in May.
Employees at the site contributed nearly $24,000 this year.
- Volunteers at the Rolling Meadows, Ill., campus put together
7,750 care packages for service members.
- Volunteers from the company's Charlottesville, Va., facility
stuffed more than 10,000 care packages to be delivered to deployed
service members.
In addition to nationwide USO fundraising activities, the
company sponsors the USO Airport Lounge for military travelers at
Washington Dulles International Airport and other airports around
the country.
In April 2011, the Northrop Grumman Foundation announced a $5
million pledge to Operation Enduring Care, which was the largest
single gift to the USO in its 70-year history and was the founding
donation for the new Wounded Warrior and Family Center. The new
center is scheduled to open in early 2013, and will support wounded
warriors at the Fort Belvoir Community Hospital and their Warrior
Transition Unit. A second facility is under construction at the new
Walter Reed National Military Medical Center at Bethesda, Md.
