Northrop Grumman Corp. on Friday said it finalized a contract to provide the Habitation and Logistics Outpost module for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Gateway, an outpost that will orbit the moon as part of the Artemis program.

NASA said the Habitation and Logistics Outpost, or HALO, is where astronauts will live and conduct research. "The pressurized living quarters will provide command and control systems for the lunar outpost, and docking ports for visiting spacecraft," NASA said.

The firm, fixed-price contract is valued at $935 million, NASA said.

Northrop Grumman said it had previously been awarded a contract to fund work through the Preliminary Design Review of HALO, and under the new contract will, along with industry partners and suppliers, work toward "a Critical Design Review in the spring of 2022 and delivery of the HALO module to the launch site in 2024."
