Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE:XOM) announced today that it is
committing $3 million in direct contributions to Hurricane Rita
relief and recovery efforts. This includes $1 million to the Texas
Disaster Relief Fund initiated by Governor Rick Perry to provide
immediate assistance to citizens in need as a result of Hurricane
Rita and $1 million to the Emergency Relief Fund for Hurricane Rita
Recovery for local relief efforts in the Jefferson County, Texas
area which covers the communities of Beaumont, Port Arthur and
Sabine Pass. The remaining funds will be contributed to other
agencies participating in hurricane relief and recovery efforts.
Including cash and in-kind contributions related to Hurricane
Katrina, ExxonMobil has committed in excess of $13 million for
relief efforts related to these two storms. "Many communities, as
well as ExxonMobil employees and families, have been impacted by
yet another natural disaster, the full extent of which is still
being assessed," said Lee Raymond, chairman and CEO of Exxon Mobil
Corporation. "Our thoughts and prayers are with our employees and
the communities facing difficult challenges in the aftermath of
Hurricane Rita." In addition to the direct company contribution for
Hurricane Rita relief and recovery, ExxonMobil also announced that
its previously announced hurricane relief matching program for
employees, retirees, surviving spouses, dealers and distributors
worldwide will be extended until March 31, 2006. The ExxonMobil
Hurricane Relief Matching Program will provide a one-to-one match
of individual contributions up to $50,000 to specific organizations
that are positioned to provide hurricane relief and recovery
assistance across the affected areas. In addition to the financial
support, ExxonMobil continues to donate fuel to emergency
responders through its fuel donation program. This program is
designed to assist "first responders" in the impacted areas in
Texas and Louisiana in those limited, extraordinary circumstances
where traditional suppliers or FEMA cannot accommodate the fuel
needs of the "first responders." "First Responders" include police,
fire and rescue squads, and hospital and medical facilities that
are providing first response rescue efforts and are addressing
critical community needs. For further details of ExxonMobil's
