Stainless steel producer Aperam (APAM.AE) said Tuesday it has split its Brazilian biomass unit from ArcelorMittal's (MT) biomass operation.

MAIN FACTS:

- Aperam's biomass operations constitute a leading company in the sector of biomass production for the steel industry with forest management, harvesting machinery and carbonisation kilns.

- In 2010, they produced 220,000 tons of charcoal.

- Aperam plans to start to switch all its stainless and electrical steel production in Brazil from coke to charcoal from end of June.

- Aperam was spun off from ArcelorMittal earlier this year.
