Renewed talk that Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim is interested in buying precious metals miner Fresnillo PLC (FRES.LN) is likely to be just be a rumor, the miner said Friday.

"Our understanding is that this is just a rumor," said Fresnillo's head of investor relations Arturo Espinola.

News reports last week said Slim is taking a look at the company, a rumor that has been around the market for a number of months.

Last week Slim listed gold and silver mining company Minera Frisco SAB (MFRISCO.MX) in Mexico, a spin off from his conglomerate Grupo Carso SAB (GPOVY, GCARSO.MX).
