AngloGold Ashanti Ltd. on Monday reported improved earnings for the third quarter, as production rose 5% on the quarter.

The gold miner generated adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization of $448 million, up 5% from the second quarter--although still well below $741 million in the third quarter of 2020.

Similarly, gold production increased 5% from the previous quarter to 613,000 ounces, but remained below 741,000 ounces a year earlier.

"The company registered an improved operating quarter from its producing assets versus the prior quarter, reporting production and cost improvements, underpinned by higher underground grades," AngloGold said.

In addition, the group said that full-year production and costs are expected to be in line with revised guidance.

AngloGold in August reduced full-year production guidance to 2.45 million-2.60 million ounces, at an all-in sustaining cost of $1,240-$1,340 an ounce. Capital expenditure was forecast at $1.03 billion-$1.19 billion.
