Germany's Mining, Chemical and Energy Industrial Union Banks on Vignette; Trade Union Deploys Vignette Software To Meet New Web

Vignette Corp. (NASDAQ:VIGND) today announced that one of Germany's
largest trade unions, the Mining, Chemical and Energy Industrial
Union (IG BCE), has launched a redesigned Web site that is built on
Vignette(R) Portal technology. By launching on the Vignette(R)
Portal, the Mining, Chemical and Energy Industrial Union has
simplified its processes, improved the overall reliability and
stability of the site, and now provides a more flexible and
user-friendly experience. IG BCE, in conjunction with IT service
provider T.I.K GmbH and Vignette partner Unilog/Avinci, had
previously deployed Vignette solutions for its Intranet, Internet
and member area. Due to constantly evolving demands, IG BCE in
early 2004 mapped out an initial plan and design for a site
re-launch to meet more stringent goals of performance,
functionality and extension capabilities. "The Vignette(R) Portal's
flexibility and its customization options left a positive and
lasting impression on us. From now on, the individual expansion of
functionality on the portal level will enable us to improve the
coordination of knowledge management and information exchange
within the organization," said Dr. Rainer Koch, T.I.K's managing
director. "With the implemented Vignette Web content management
functions - based on standard Vignette(R) Portal structures - we
were able to substantially improve usability during individual Web
site creation. And that's something that a Web site visitor will
immediately notice. For the near future, we are planning to
increasingly use Web-based applications to support our standard
business processes." "This example shows that Vignette solutions
are also very well suited for smaller users and that they can be
implemented within very tight budgets. We are pleased about the
joint success of IG BCE, T.I.K. and Unilog/Avinci," said Irja
Wichert, regional vice-president of central and eastern Europe at
Vignette. "For the future, we can envisage extending the solution
by adding 'collaboration' features. That, for example, could
optimally support processes pertaining to wage negotiations." The
site, www.igbce.de, went live earlier this year, and additional
pages are gradually being migrated to the new platform. Presently,
there are plans to extend the offering and service to other unions'
Web sites. Also under consideration is an expansion of the Intranet
as a centralized entry point for other Web-based applications.
About the IG BCE The IG BCE is a new union, but it has long-running
roots. In the early 1990s, the Mining and Energy and Industrial
Union (IGBE), the Chemical, Paper and Ceramics Union (IGCPK), and
the Leather Union (GL) agreed on joining forces and forming a new
future-oriented organisation with a strong membership and an
assertive approach. In 1997, the unions merged, and the three
organisations formed the Mining, Chemical, and Energy Industrial
Union, which is now the third-largest group of the Hanover-based
DGB (German Confederation of Trade Unions). For further
