MINNEAPOLIS, Feb. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Cingular Wireless and Hubbard Broadcasting, Inc. have teamed together to provide a free text messaging service that will send text alerts about school closings, school delays and winter weather advisories in metropolitan Minneapolis/St. Paul and surrounding areas. The text messages are available to any person who registers his/her wireless handset from any wireless carrier in the area, provided that the handset can receive text messages. Handsets must be registered during each annual program period, which typically runs from October through April. Following registration, a participant's first alert can be expected within approximately 48 hours. Alerts will not be received where wireless carriers have no or inadequate coverage.
