ORLANDO, Fla., July 17 /PRNewswire/ -- A new Cingular Wireless cell site in Youngstown near the intersection of State Highway 388 and County Road 2301 is providing connecting coverage along these routes and improving coverage along U.S. Highway 231 and State Highway 20 in northern Bay County. The new site, one of some 40 to be turned on in North, Central and West Florida this year, is part of a $370 million network investment statewide by the nation's largest wireless carrier. The investment also includes the addition of hundreds of portable and permanent generators in hurricane-prone areas and the completion of the integration of the AT&T Wireless and Cingular networks in North, Central and West Florida earlier this year. Network integration in South Florida will be completed this summer. "The investment we are making in our network demonstrates our commitment to provide better quality service to our customers," said Dan Norman, vice- president and general manager for Cingular's West, Central and North Florida markets. Cingular also will roll out its third-generation (3G) high-speed broadband wireless network throughout Florida this summer. The service provides average mobile data connections between 400-700 kilobits per second on the downlink and bursts to more than a megabit per second.
