Appian Technology plc ("Appian" or the "Company")
OEM Agreement with Californian based Civica Software
Appian Technology plc, the AIM-traded provider of Automatic Number Plate
Recognition Systems ("ANPR") and traffic management products and solutions, has
signed its first original equipment manufacturer agreement ('OEM') with US based
Civica Software ('Civica'), its Californian based distributor. As part of the
agreement, Appian has taken an equity position, with an option to increase this
shareholding at a defined price in the future.
Civica is a leading global software-based solutions group focussed on developing
and distributing technology products for the US Government and law enforcement
agencies. Under the terms of the agreement, Civica will integrate Appian's
TalonSPTM recognition engine into its proprietary hardware and software system,
PlateScanTM, to create a superior product that enables customers to proactively
identify vehicles of interest during routine patrols. The new integrated system
is already generating considerable interest, with the first sale recently
agreed.
Appian Chairman Pat Ryan said, "The signing of the OEM agreement clearly
demonstrates Appian's willingness to work with system integrators to embed the
TalonSP ANPR engine, thereby accelerating its worldwide expansion. We have been
collaborating with Civica for a number of years in developing the US market and
modifying the products to meet the challenges of high performance ANPR across
the USA. We are seeing a strong demand for ANPR in the law enforcement, home
land security, transport sectors and road user charging schemes in the US and
have supported this demand by strengthening our US based team."
Civica Software's Chairman Martin Alper, "I believe that the combination of
Appian's world leading ANPR engine coupled with PlateScan's technology, can
bring ANPR into the mainstream and make this proven technology accessible to all
law enforcement personnel across the US. Originally developed to thwart
terrorists and deny them the use of the highways, our completely 'Americanized'
system has been refined and improved to maintain that level of superiority."
