Pegasus Solutions, Inc. (Nasdaq:PEGS) today signed an agreement
with GIATA mbH to provide a translation service that will allow
hotels using Pegasus' electronic distribution service to promote
their properties in additional languages. Based in Kassel, Germany,
GIATA is a developer and marketer of interactive tourism tools. The
companies signed the agreement during the ITB show. The new service
is part of Pegasus' continuing update to its Online Distribution
Database (ODD), which supplies hotel information to thousands of
Web sites. Dallas-based Pegasus is a leading global provider of
technology and services to hotels and travel distributors. "The
agreement with GIATA complements the other work that we've been
doing to make the ODD the industry's leading repository of hotel
content for the global marketplace," explained Dennis Law, senior
vice president of product management and strategy at Pegasus. "We
are completing work this month that will allow hotels to upload and
maintain their properties' images under an agreement with Leonardo
Media that improves the quality and quantity of the images
available through the ODD." The Pegasus ODD houses more than
200,000 images, property and room descriptions for more than 60,000
hotels and is accessible by an estimated 350,000 travel agents,
travel distributors and travel Web sites around the world. "By
working with GIATA, we can offer our hotel customers the
opportunity to have their detailed property and room information
translated into additional languages, allowing these hotels to
expand their appeal to both travel agents and consumers," Law said.
Andreas Posmeck, GIATA managing director, said that GIATA "welcomes
the cooperation with Pegasus and looks forward to building a close
relationship with Pegasus to offer our professional translation
services to over 60,000 hotels throughout the world. The hotel
business is becoming increasingly international, a trend in which I
am certain Pegasus and GIATA will play a central role." According
to Law, Pegasus has also completed the specifications for the ODD
interface, which uses Open Travel Alliance standards and will
support the transfer of hotel property data from the hotels in more
structured formats to meet on line distributor and consumer needs.
"The majority of the work on the redesign will be completed in
June, and hotels will be able to begin to take advantage of the new
the database design, including its ability to support rich media
such as virtual tours," he noted. "The new ODD demonstrates our
commitment to helping hotels improve the quality and consistency of
information and provide richer and more accurate content to help
them better inform travel agents, travel distributors and travel
Web sites about their properties," Law said. Hoteliers can learn
more about Pegasus' electronic distribution services during ITB.
