MCLEAN, Va., Aug. 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has been awarded a contract from FlightSafety Services Corporation to provide information technology and training services for the Joint Primary Aircraft Training System Ground Based Training System (JPATS GBTS). The JPATS GBTS is a military training integration management system that provides comprehensive flight training services for U.S. Air Force and Navy students and instructors. Northrop Grumman's Information Technology (IT) sector is a subcontractor to FlightSafety Services under this indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (ID/IQ) contract. Northrop Grumman and FlightSafety Services will develop, deploy, maintain, and provide help desk services and user training to the JPATS GBTS, which supports more than 10,000 users. The GBTS includes flight simulators, a training integration management system, courseware and a courseware delivery system, as well as a modification update and support system for these elements. Northrop Grumman also received a contract to provide software development, modification updates and support, user training and help desk services to the JPATS GBTS Training Integration Management System (TIMS). TIMS supports all undergraduate pilot and navigator training for the U.S. Air Force and Navy. The ID/IQ contract has a ceiling of $100 million over 10 years. Work on the contract will be conducted in Colorado Springs as well as various user sites. "The use of an electronic flight training management system allows the instructor to focus more attention on the student and less on time-consuming paperwork," said James Barry, vice president, Technology Integration and Applications of Northrop Grumman IT's Defense group. "Northrop Grumman has more than 10 years' experience managing flight training systems for the Air Force and Navy. These systems offer instructors and students the resources and education they need to safely and effectively serve the United States and its allies." TIMS is currently in use at Randolph Air Force Base, Texas; Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas; Columbus Air Force Base, Miss.; Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas; Vance Air Force Base, Okla.; Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, Texas; and Naval Air Station Whiting Field, Fla. This contract will extend its use to Naval Air Station Kingsville, Texas; Naval Air Station Meridian, Miss.; and Naval Air Station Pensacola, Fla. Northrop Grumman has supported JPATS GBTS since 1997. The electronic system manages the schedules and resources necessary to conduct student flight training, including classroom, aircraft and airspace availability. The tool also provides situational awareness capabilities for instructors to monitor student progress, and for students to track personal training status.
