Notification of the Acquisition of Shares by the Trustees of Abbot Group 
Employees Trustees Limited (the "Trust")

"We hereby give notice that the following directors of the Company, namely AJ D
Locke, P J Milne, M J L Salter and M A White have a potential interest in
shares held by the Trust.

On 9 January 2004 the Trust purchased 475,000 ordinary shares of 15 pence
each in the Company at a price of 145 pence per share.

Subsequent to the acquisition, the Trust held 1,176,162 ordinary shares of 15
pence each in the Company, representing 0.67 per cent of the Company's issued
share capital.
