/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Amateur golfers from across the country
will have the opportunity to meet on the greens for a chance to
play with the pros for two more years. The Chrysler Group's
Chrysler brand today renewed its partnership with The Golf Digest
Companies and its commitment to the Chrysler Club Championship
presented by Golf Digest, Golf For Women and Golf World. The
tournament will continue through 2006 and expand to include two new
PGA Sections. The Chrysler Club Championship is a stroke play event
designed for top amateur golfers. In 2004, more than 30,000
amateurs competed in local and regional tournaments throughout the
summer. This year, two new markets will be added for a total of
six. The sections will include Michigan, Northern Texas, Northern
California, the Middle-Atlantic, the Florida State Golf Association
and the New England PGA section. One man and one woman from the
field will win the opportunity to play with professional golfers
and celebrities at the 2006 Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. "Golf has
long been an integral part of the Chrysler brand, and is a sport
that reflects the character of both the brand and millions of
Chrysler owners," said Jeff Bell, Vice President - Chrysler. "The
style and sophistication of the Chrysler 300, Chrysler Crossfire
and Chrysler Town & Country are perfectly at home at country
clubs across the U.S." "Creating unique custom marketing platforms
for advertisers is at the heart of our business," said Mitchell B.
Fox, President and CEO of The Golf Digest Companies. "The Chrysler
Club Championship is a powerful brand- enhancing event that
captures the attention and passion of many thousands of golf
consumers nationwide. We're proud to partner with Chrysler on this
hugely successful endeavor." For the second straight year, the
National Multiple Sclerosis Society (National MS Society) and the
American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) will benefit from the
Chrysler Club Championship. Donations will fund research and
programs to help find solutions to end the effects of multiple
sclerosis and provide college golf scholarships to young men and
women through competitive junior golf. The two-year extension of
the Chrysler Club Championship partnership raises the profile of
the Chrysler brand among amateur golfers. In addition to its
sponsorship, Chrysler will also arrange vehicle test drive programs
at more than 200 participating clubs across the country, so players
and spectators can experience the brand's full-line of
award-winning products firsthand. Chrysler has been affiliated with
golf for most of its history. In fact, 2005 marks the 40th
anniversary of Chrysler's participation in golf, which began when
it first sponsored the Bob Hope Classic in 1965. Chrysler is
currently the single largest sponsor of the PGA Tour. In addition
to the Chrysler Club Championship amateur tournament, the Chrysler
Brand also sponsors four professional golf tournaments, including
the recently completed Chrysler Classic of Tucson in Tucson, Ariz.;
the Chrysler Classic of Greensboro scheduled for Sept. 26 - Oct. 2
in Greensboro, N.C.; the Chrysler Championship scheduled for Oct.
24 - 30 in Tampa, Fla.; and the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, which
was just held Jan. 24 - 30 in Palm Desert, Calif. These four golf
events help to raise millions of dollars for charities across the
country. The 2004 Chrysler Club Championship concluded with a
unique opportunity for amateur golfers Glen Mullian of Richmond,
Va., and Lynne Cowan of Merced, Calif., to compete with
professional golfers and celebrities in the Bob Hope Chrysler
Classic. Mullian finished 24 under par, just four shots off
tournament winner Justin Leonard. Cowan was one of three women who
competed in the Classic and shot four under par in her final round.
