AEGON completes strategic review of Transamerica Finance Corporation businesses

AEGON N.V. has completed its strategic review of the non-insurance businesses
comprising Transamerica Finance Corporation (TFC) acquired in connection with
the purchase of Transamerica Corporation in July 1999.  It has been decided to
make opportunistic divestments of these TFC businesses.  The divestments under
consideration include possible asset or business unit sales, in whole or in
part, as well as joint ventures.  AEGON's core business is focused on insurance,
with a strong emphasis on life insurance, pensions and related savings and
investment products.  The non-insurance activities of Transamerica had
previously been classified as non-core.

TFC, by far the largest of the Transamerica non-insurance businesses, focuses
on commercial lending and leasing, and at year-end 1999 had managed assets of
approximately USD 16 billion.  Its businesses operate on a highly autonomous
basis and hold prominent positions in their respective markets.  Morgan Stanley
Dean Witter and Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette have been retained to assist AEGON
in the divestment process.

The integration of Transamerica's life insurance operations into the AEGON USA
organization is progressing well.  The prominent Transamerica name and the
pyramid icon form a flagship brand for AEGON's operations in the Americas. The
organization recently expanded its life insurance operations in Canada through
the acquisition of NN Life Insurance Company of Canada.

AEGON N.V., based in The Hague, the Netherlands, is one of the largest listed
insurance organizations worldwide, and based on assets, is the third largest
life insurer in the United States.
