recognized with top honors in Elevator World magazine's
"Project of the Year" contest in the category of Escalator
Modernization for its project located at the Seattle-Tacoma
International Airport.
The award-winning project, which was completed in 2013, included
the installation of two new escalators and 42 existing escalators
that were either fully replaced or modernized, including 10
escalators modernized with the KONE EcoMod™ solution. This
technology enabled KONE to replace the entire inner workings of the
escalators without disruptive and expensive truss removal, allowing
the airport to maintain open people flow routes in key busy areas
of the airport.
Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is a busy airport, to the
tune of nearly 35 million passengers in 20131.
Modernizing the escalators at the airport to improve the airport's
infrastructure functionality drew upon the unique capabilities,
experience and innovative People Flow® solutions KONE is proud to
possess. The project required intricate customer coordination to
make it a success, which entailed extensive planning, construction
project expertise and constant communication.
