The donation included a new 2005 Dodge Sprinter van and a check for $112,000. Delray Neighborhood House is a community center that provides social and educational resources for the surrounding community, including computer labs, health and welfare courses, field trips and summer camp. The monetary gift, a DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund contribution, will be used to renovate the Delray Neighborhood House gymnasium and equip a new state-of-the-art computer lab. "The holiday season is a time for giving -- to our loved ones, friends and to people in the community in need," said LaSorda. "We hope our donation and the Dodge Sprinter van will help Delray House fulfill its mission and brighten the lives of the children in southwest Detroit." In addition to the charitable donation, LaSorda announced the formation of the "Friends of Delray Neighborhood House" -- which he also established. The "Friends" program will be used to provide additional financial resources and increase volunteerism and programming at Delray House. A grand-opening celebration is planned for 2006. "Delray House thanks the DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund for its support and the wonderful donations," said Tom Cervenek, Executive Director of Delray Neighborhood House. "This is a great holiday gift and the donation will make a difference in the quality of our gym, computer lab and other facilities." The Delray Neighborhood House is a division of People's Community Services, which is celebrating 50 years of community service. The Delray House currently is undergoing a 6,000-square-foot expansion, which includes a new community room, counseling offices, computer lab, and Detroit Police Sub- Station. The center serves more than 600 youth in the southwest neighborhood. The DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund is the primary source of charitable grants made by DaimlerChrysler Corporation.
