/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Chrysler Group President and CEO Tom
LaSorda brought a sackful of holiday cheer to southwest Detroit
Thursday evening, donating $140,000 to the Delray Neighborhood
House. The donation included a new 2005 Dodge Sprinter van and a
check for $112,000. Delray Neighborhood House is a community center
that provides social and educational resources for the surrounding
community, including computer labs, health and welfare courses,
field trips and summer camp. The monetary gift, a DaimlerChrysler
Corporation Fund contribution, will be used to renovate the Delray
Neighborhood House gymnasium and equip a new state-of-the-art
computer lab. "The holiday season is a time for giving -- to our
loved ones, friends and to people in the community in need," said
LaSorda. "We hope our donation and the Dodge Sprinter van will help
Delray House fulfill its mission and brighten the lives of the
children in southwest Detroit." In addition to the charitable
donation, LaSorda announced the formation of the "Friends of Delray
Neighborhood House" -- which he also established. The "Friends"
program will be used to provide additional financial resources and
increase volunteerism and programming at Delray House. A
grand-opening celebration is planned for 2006. "Delray House thanks
the DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund for its support and the
wonderful donations," said Tom Cervenek, Executive Director of
Delray Neighborhood House. "This is a great holiday gift and the
donation will make a difference in the quality of our gym, computer
lab and other facilities." The Delray Neighborhood House is a
division of People's Community Services, which is celebrating 50
years of community service. The Delray House currently is
undergoing a 6,000-square-foot expansion, which includes a new
community room, counseling offices, computer lab, and Detroit
Police Sub- Station. The center serves more than 600 youth in the
southwest neighborhood. The DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund is the
primary source of charitable grants made by DaimlerChrysler
Corporation. The Fund annually supports hundreds of charitable
organizations with an emphasis on community growth, arts,
education, and social welfare throughout the United States and
