notification that the total interest held by Schroder Investment Management
Limited on a discretionary basis for clients is 5,689,866 ordinary shares which
represents 15.077% of the issued share capital.

This figure includes:

i)   2,668,987 registered in the name of Mineworkers' Pension Scheme
     Nominees Limited A/C R

ii)  2,520,879 registered in the name of British Coal Staff
     Superannuation Scheme Nominees Limited A/C P

iii) 500,000 held in unit trust(s) operated and managed by an affiliated 
     company, Schroders Unit Trusts Limited (SUTL) and registered or to be 
     registered in the name of Chase Nominees Limited.
