The City of Greendale approved a partnership with Cincinnati
Bell Inc. on Wednesday, Nov. 10, that will result in the
development of a one gigabit high-speed broadband fiber network
available to every address in the city. This robust fiber network
will be deployed over the next 24 months.
Access to reliable high-speed Internet is essential for
residents and businesses to address work-from-home, virtual
learning, and telehealth activities. Under terms of the
partnership, Cincinnati Bell will deliver its state-of-the-art
“Fiber to the Premise” network (FTTP) to approximately 2,200
locations in the City of Greendale. The City of Greendale’s
investment of approximately $625,000 will leverage a Cincinnati
Bell investment of approximately $2.5 million to implement the
project.
As part of the agreement, Cincinnati Bell’s Smart City
organization – UniCity – will help design, construct, and install
the infrastructure to support public Wi-Fi in designated parts of
the City of Greendale. Public Wi-Fi is critical to create economic
development opportunities for businesses that leverage these
networks to reach customers in new ways, and to support
applications that enhance the quality of life for residents and
visitors.
“The City of Greendale is excited to partner with Cincinnati
Bell to bring high-speed fiber broadband to the residents and
businesses of our city,” said Alan Weiss, Mayor of the City of
Greendale. “This will be a great amenity for the Greendale
Community.”
Cincinnati Bell has a long history and progressive experience in
providing and managing large and complex wireline and wireless
projects. As the leading supplier of fiber-based services in
Greater Cincinnati, Cincinnati Bell has invested more than $1
billion since 2010 into building a fiber network across the
region.
The partnership with the City of Greendale furthers the
company’s goal to find creative solutions toward providing
high-quality fiber connections to all, particularly with respect to
those who are unserved and under-served.
“Internet connectivity is mission-critical to access jobs,
educational opportunities, and health-care resources,” said Tom
Simpson, Chief Operating Officer of Cincinnati Bell. “We are
excited about this partnership with the City of Greendale, and
appreciate the City’s leadership in support of digital equity and
equal access to high-speed broadband Internet.”
