information is compiled from both official and unofficial refining
sources and doesn't purport to be a comprehensive list.
Valero Energy Corp. (VLO) on Oct. 21 said previously announced
turnaround maintenance at a crude distillation unit and a coker
unit has begun at its oil refinery in Corpus Christi, Texas. The
turnaround is expected to conclude in three weeks.
Tesoro Corp. (TSO) on Oct. 20 said the process of shutting down
unspecified process units slated for planned, regularly-scheduled
maintenance at its Wilmington, Calif., refinery would begin on Oct.
21. Those units are expected to restart on Oct. 27. Flaring may
occur. Trade sources said the work is being performed at a crude
distillation unit and coker unit.
Tesoro Corp. on Oct. 20 said key gasoline-making equipment and
several associated process units at its oil refinery in Anacortes,
Wash., would return to service by the end of October following
planned maintenance. The units were taken out of service starting
on Oct. 1.
Valero Energy Corp. on Oct. 20 said emissions reported to Texas
State environmental regulators the day before were associated with
the end of some of the turnaround maintenance underway since late
Sept. at its oil refinery in Three Rivers, Texas. Turnaround
continues at parts of the plant; restart seen in early Nov.
Valero Energy Corp.'s Houston refinery experienced an electrical
outage on Oct. 19; plant production rates of affected process
equipment were immediately reduced, the co. said in a filing to
Texas state environmental regulators. The refinery was returning to
planned rate on Oct. 19 with the outage "not expected to have a
material impact on production," Valero spokesman Bill Day said.
ConocoPhillips (COP) said units upset by a transformer fire on
Oct. 18 at its oil refinery in Sweeny, Texas, were in the process
of restarting soon after the fire was extinguished, a report to the
National Response Center, or NRC, said. The units weren't
identified and no further details were provided.
ConocoPhillips on Oct. 18 is in the process of restarting a
production unit at its oil refinery in Wilmington, California,
according to traders doing business in the region. The unit has
been identified by trade sources as a hydrotreating unit that was
shut on Oct. 10 by a small fire.
Sunoco Inc. (SUN) recently restarted a key gasoline and diesel
fuel-making unit at its oil refinery in Marcus Hook, Pa., traders
doing business in the region said on Oct. 18. The unit was taken
out of service a week ago due to a mechanical problem according to
a filing to Pa. state environmental regulators. A crude unit and a
reformer unit at the 178,000-barrel-a-day refinery, shut on Oct. 3
for two weeks of work, are expected to restart on Oct. 19.

Suncor Energy Inc.'s (SU) oil refinery in Edmonton, Alberta,
will be operating at reduced rates over the next two weeks due to a
disruption in hydrogen supplies, a company spokeswoman said on Oct.
11. The disruption in hydrogen supplies occurred at a third-party
supplier which told Suncor it would be unable to supply hydrogen
over the next two weeks.
