 PROVALIS APPOINTS CHRISTINE SODEN AS NEW NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Provalis  (LSE.PRO) is pleased to today announce the  appointment
of Ms Christine Soden as a Non-Executive Director and as Chairman
of  its  Audit Committee. Ms Soden (42), a Chartered  Accountant,
was  formally the Finance Director of Chiroscience Group plc and,
following  its merger with Celltech plc, Chief Financial  Officer
of Celltech Chiroscience plc.

Mr  Frank  Harding, Non-Executive Chairman of Provalis, said:  "I
welcome Christine Soden's appointment to the Board and her taking
up   of  the  Chairmanship  of  Provalis'  Audit  Committee.  Her
experience as a Finance Director with Chiroscience, and the roles
she  has  played in business development and investor  relations,

NOTES TO EDITORS

Ms Soden qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1981. She was the
Group Financial Controller and Head of tax and treasury at Medeva
plc   from  1991  until  1995  and  played  a  key  role  in  its
international  corporate acquisition and fund raising  programme.
She  joined  Chiroscience Group plc as its  Finance  Director  in
January 1996 with responsibility for capital raising, mergers and
acquisitions, financial control, company secretarial and investor
relations. She also had significant roles in business development
and  legal  matters.  She became the Chief Financial  Officer  of
Celltech  Chiroscience plc following the merger  of  Chiroscience
Group  plc and Celltech plc in August 1999. She has served  on  a
number  of  industry  and  governmental  bodies  and  committees,
including  serving as Chair of the Finance and Taxation Committee
of  the  BioIndustry  Association and  sitting  on  the  Williams
Committee,  which advised the government on matters  relating  to
the financing of high tech companies.
