SANTA ANA, Calif., July 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Corinthian Colleges, Inc. (NASDAQ:COCO) has appointed Richard B. Simpson, Ph.D., as senior vice president and chief academic officer. He will report to Beth Wilson, Corinthian's executive vice president, operations. Dr. Simpson will help set academic policy and serve as a liaison for school management. In this role, he will provide ongoing guidance to school leadership and staff, and oversee accreditation and licensure, internal regulatory processes, curriculum and faculty development, and student services. Dr. Simpson, 60, most recently served as interim chief academic and operations officer for Colorado State University's (CSU) Global Campus, where he directed the development of an independent, online division of CSU's continuing education program. He concurrently served as associate provost for CSU's continuing education division. Earlier, Simpson served as associate dean, academic outreach and continuing education for the University of Utah, where he began his academic career in 1983. Over the course of a 21-year career at the University of Utah, he also served as adjunct associate professor of management, assistant dean - division of continuing education, associate dean - division of continuing education, and adjunct associate professor of political science. Simpson holds a doctorate degree in psychology and master of science degree in economics from the University of Utah, and a bachelor of arts degree in biology from Colorado College. "Throughout Richard's career he has been keenly interested in the relationship between continuing education and the employer market," Wilson said. "He has extensive experience in curriculum development, creating and fostering partnerships, and building and implementing non-traditional higher education programs, particularly for evening and distance students.
