Covenant Logistics Group agreed to pay the $700,000 in civil
penalties to resolve allegations of hiring discrimination.
The logistics and transportation solutions company was accused
of discriminating against non-U.S. citizen workers when checking
their permission to work in the U.S., the Justice Department said
on Monday.
"The Justice Department is committed to ensuring compliance with
our federal civil rights laws so that non-U.S. citizens with
permission to work can contribute their talents to our workforce,"
the department said.
From January 2020 to at least August 2022, Covenant and its
affiliated entity Transport Management Services routinely requested
lawful permanent residents to show their permanent resident cards.
They also required other non-U.S. citizens to show documents
related to their immigration status.
Covenant Logistics has agreed to train their employees on the
Immigration and Nationality Act's anti-discrimination requirements,
revise their employment policies and be subject to monitoring by
the department.
