GULFPORT, Miss., Feb. 27,
2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Mississippi Power Chairman,
President and CEO Anthony Wilson
announced today that he will be retiring this summer after a career
with Mississippi Power and Southern Company that spanned more than
four decades.
"I have been very blessed to work in the region where I grew up
and love tremendously," Wilson said. "Our employees work tirelessly
to deliver safe, reliable energy to our customers and communities
in southeast Mississippi, and it's
been an honor to be a part of this team. Our company is
well-positioned for the future thanks to their commitment to
excellence and leading by example."
During Wilson's tenure, Mississippi Power has become an industry
leader in safety and reliability. The company has been recognized
multiple times by the Southeastern Electric Exchange for Total
Company Top Safety Performance and by the Edison Electric Institute
for many outstanding storm response efforts.
As Mississippi Power commemorates its centennial year, the
company is experiencing a period of unprecedented growth under
Wilson's leadership. In recent months, the company has signed
contracts with two customers totaling approximately 600 MW that
will result in more than $10 billion
of investment in southeast Mississippi.
"Anthony's legacy will always be one of dedication to his
customers and employees as well as to all citizens of Mississippi," said Chris Womack, chairman, president and CEO of
Southern Company. "Over the years, he has not only led Mississippi
Power to be an industry leader in safety and reliability,
delivering on its promise to provide clean, safe, reliable and
affordable power to southeast Mississippi, but also has been a fierce
advocate for Mississippi through
his support of economic development, workforce development and
education. We're thankful to Anthony for the impact he's had on our
company, our customers and the communities we serve over the last
four decades and congratulate him on this next chapter in life.
Anthony has been a dear friend to me and so many others throughout
his career. We will miss him."
Wilson's impact on the State of
Mississippi is something that will be felt for decades to
come. During his term as chair of the Mississippi Economic Council,
the MEC's "It's Time" campaign in 2020 garnered more than 1,000
businesses and individuals in support of the legislature's historic
votes to change the divisive state flag that had flown since 1894.
The new "In God We Trust" flag unified citizens and changed
perceptions of the state resulting in historic economic
development.
In the community and across the state, Wilson has volunteered
his time on numerous boards including the Mississippi State University Foundation,
Mississippi Aquarium Foundation, William Carey University, the
Mississippi Energy Institute, the Mississippi Partnership for
Economic Development and the Gulf Coast Business Council. He was
also appointed by Mississippi
Governor Tate Reeves to lead the
Energy Impact Committee for the Restart Mississippi Commission on
Economic Recovery.
Wilson, a native of D'Iberville, Mississippi, began his career with Mississippi
Power in 1984 as an engineering cooperative education student in
Biloxi, Mississippi. He moved to
Georgia Power in 2002 and held several executive leadership
positions before returning home to lead Mississippi Power in
2015.
Now in its 100th year of service, Mississippi Power,
a subsidiary of Southern Company (NYSE: SO), produces safe,
reliable and affordable energy for more than 192,000 customers in
23 southeast Mississippi counties.
Mississippi Power is proud to be an industry leader in safety and
reliability. The company was recognized in 2024 by the Southeastern
Electric Exchange for the Top Safety Performance in its generation
category. For outstanding storm response, the company has also been
honored by the Edison Electric Institute multiple times with an
