Fractal Antenna Systems, Inc., a leading supplier of solutions for the most demanding wireless applications, and Nashua Corporation (NASDAQ: NSHA), a manufacturer and marketer of label products, paper transaction supplies and converted RFID tags, today announced a licensing agreement to distribute radio-frequency identification (RFID) tags using fractal antenna technology. Under the terms of the licensing agreement, Nashua has secured the exclusive rights to manufacture and distribute passive RFID labels and tags using antennas developed by Fractal Antenna Systems. In tests conducted by Nashua Corporation and Fractal Antenna, the new tags demonstrated superior performance and greater read- range in a smaller form-factor than passive tags with standard antennas. Using advanced fractal antennas will enable Nashua to offer RFID labels and tags with enhanced performance, not only for tracking cases and pallets in the supply chain, but also for individual items and even hard-to-tag items containing metal and water, said Robert Pernice, Director of RFID Marketing and Sales at Nashua Corporation. We are delighted to be partnering with Fractal Antenna Systems, an acknowledged pioneer and innovator in this industry. Nashua Corporation views this as a significant strategic advantage in an industry eager for new technologies to overcome size and read-accuracy limitations. Developed over the last 20 years, fractal antennas radically alter the traditional relationships between bandwidth, gain and size permitting antennas that are more powerful, versatile and compact. Repetition of simple shapes inherent to fractal geometry enables production of high performance antennas that are typically 50 to 75 percent smaller than traditional ones. When used with RFID tags, the patented fractal antennas and tags make it possible for increased accuracy from greater distances. By working with Nashua Corporation to incorporate fractal antenna technology into label and tag form factors of all shapes and sizes, we can deliver more accurate and more flexible solutions to the RFID market, said Dr. Nathan Cohen, Founder and Chief Technology Officer, Fractal Antenna. Fractal antenna technology is used to deliver similar improvements across many industries including in-building wireless, telematics, electronic warfare and signal intelligence. About Nashua Corporation Nashua Corporation manufactures and markets a wide variety of specialty imaging products and services to industrial and commercial customers to meet various print application needs.
